LITERACY WORKSHOP

An informative and interactive session comprising of all aspects of Literacy at Winchester was conducted for parents by the English department on 17th September.
The session stressed the importance of parental collaboration in helping students to raise their attainment levels.
The parents were given an update about strategies used in the class by the teachers to improve listening, speaking, writing and understanding skills of the children. The parents were introduced to different resources like text-books, story books, power point presentations, literacy software, note-books, etc. to help the child. Evaluation based on Ros Wilson criteria was explained. Parents were informed about teaching at home with the help of home-learning and Family Learning Newsletters.
The session was quite interactive with all parental queries answered so that parents would be able to assist their child in learning to ensure academic progress.
Parents were very happy that the Workshop enlightened them of fun ways to help children with literacy at home along with offering a complete insight into teaching methods and strategies deployed.
